Mihintale temple

In the afternoon your chauffeur guide will take you to Mihintale temple. Mihintale is a key pilgrimage site for Sri Lankan Buddhists, and is home to several majestic religious monuments including a magnificent 40ft stupa which dates back to the 1st century BC.

There are many caves which were earlier used by monks for meditation in a quiet surrounding away from the main city of Anuradhapura.

Visiting ancient city of Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is the first capital of Sri Lanka. Its greatest monastic city of the ancient world that dates back to 5th century BC remained the majestic seat of the kingdom of Sri Lanka until the 11th century AD.

Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization.

One of the most notable events during the Anuradhapura Kingdom was the introduction of Buddhism to the country. A strong alliance existed between Devanampiya Tissa (250–210 BC) and Ashoka of India, who sent Arahat Mahinda, four monks, and a novice to Sri Lanka. They encountered Devanampiya Tissa at Mihintale.

After this meeting, Devanampiya Tissa embraced Buddhism and the order of monks was established in the country. Devanampiya Tissa, guided by Arahat Mahinda, took steps to firmly establish Buddhism in the country.

Discover the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, Pidurangala rock

The ancient city of polonnaruwa was the second capital of sri lanka for 3 centuries between the 11th to 13 th century after the destruction of Anuradhapura kingdom in 993. It is located in north central province of sri lanka.

Towards the north-east of Sigiriya Rock is a famous hill of Pidurangala rising about one mile from the site. Pidurangala rock cave temple is also a part of many Sri Lanka tours that include Sigiriya and Dambulla caves.

The rock temple abruptly rises up to 200 m from the surrounding area. An ancient cave dating back to Anuradhapura period, with an inscription written below the drip ledge, situated at the foot of the hill has been restored to a modern vihara. By this site, an ancient path of rough stepping stones leads up the hill where the overhanging rock on the eastern side shelters a very long cave.

Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress and place built by king kashyapa during the reign of 473 – 495 which is standing majestically 660 feet straight up.

The word sigiriya or sinhagiri means the Lion’s rock. Where you have to climb up 1200 steps before you reach the lion’s rock fortress on top of sigiriya. Sigiriya is about 200 meters height.

Dambulla cave temple, spice garden, cultural dance show

The Dambulla Cave Temple is traced to the 1st century BC, and is the most treasured cave temple in Asia. It has five caves under a vast rock that overhangs the temple.

On the underbelly of the Rock is carved a drip line that keeps the interiors dry. Inside the caves, the ceilings are adorned with intricate patterns of religious images meticulously painted following the natural contours of the rock.

Images of the Buddha and bodhisattvas and gods and goddesses are to be seen inside. The cave monastery remains the best-preserved historical structure in Sri Lanka that dates back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. It remains to this day a living Shrine that draws thousands of devotees and curious visitors.

Today you will arrive in the hill capital of Kandy. As the center of Buddhism and the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. To step up the tempo attend a dance performance featuring traditional dances from the different regions of sri lanka along with a fire walk show

Spend the day at hill capital of Kandy , as the center of Buddhism and the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Kandy is an administrative commercial culturel and attracts many pilgrims and tourists, a heritage site pretty in a valley surrounded by rings of mountains.

Visit tea estate and factory to see how Ceylon tea is process.
