Colombo is a city that makes you feel home no sooner you reach it. Known to Roman, Arab and Chinese traders for 2000 years as well as Indian traders from Calicut and Gujarat also made it their rendezvous point with the Arabs from the Gulf of Oman.

The natural point of convergence for traders from the remotest recesses of the past today it is a vibrant city frequented by visitors both on holiday in Sri Lanka or a Stopover in Sri Lanka on their way to the heart of Asia.

Colombo withstood the turbulence of European conquest with its ancient charm and elegance. In the process it became the seventh largest sheltered port in the world in 1907. Its demography mirrors its captivating history with a mix of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian ethics. Many great landmarks within its Municipality display this colorful history.

Pinnawala elephant orphanage, Dambulla cave temple

To begin, drop by the Pinnawala elephant orphanage to get your first introduction to Sri Lanka’s most infamous inhabitants. Here you can watch these giant animals up close as they feed and bath in the shimmering water of the Ma Oya river.

After that, we continued to the town of Sigiriya. Within the country is a rich cultural triangle. Late afternoon visit the Dambulla cave temple

The Dambulla Cave Temple is traced to the 1st century BC, and is the most treasured cave temple in Asia. It has five caves under a vast rock that overhangs the temple. On the underbelly of the Rock is carved a drip line that keeps the interiors dry. 

Inside the caves, the ceilings are adorned with intricate patterns of religious images meticulously painted following the natural contours of the rock. Images of the Buddha and bodhisattvas and gods and goddesses are to be seen inside.

The cave monastery remains the best-preserved historical structure in Sri Lanka that dates back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. It remains to this day a living Shrine that draws thousands of devotees and curious visitors.

Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress and place built by the King Kashyapa during the reign of 473 – 495 which is standing majestically 660 feet straight up. The word Sigiriya or Sinhagiri means the lion’s rock. Where you have to climb up 1200 steps before you reach the lion’s rock fortress on top of Sigiriya. Sigiriya is about 200 meters height.

Sigiriya > Kandy

en-route, we recommend you make a stop at the Matale spice garden to learn about Ceylon’s finest spice.

Today you will arrive in the hill capital of Kandy. As the center of Buddhism and the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. To step up the tempo attend a dance performance featuring traditional dances from the different regions of Sri Lanka along with a fire walk show.

Day 6

Spend the day at hill capital of Kandy , as the center of Buddhism and the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Kandy is an administrative commercial cultural and attracts many pilgrims and tourists, a heritage site pretty in a valley surrounded by rings of mountains.

Visit the botanical garden which includes more than 4000 species of plants.

Day 7

Kandy > Ella

Waterfalls, tea plantation & factory, train ride

The train journey starts from Nuwara Eliya, On the way to Nuwara Eliya you can see some waterfalls and panoramic places. Sri Lanka tea growing region. Visit tea estate and factory to see how Ceylon tea is process.

The train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella is a beautiful 3 hours ride that moves through tea plantation, jungle and mountains. As the journey goes on, you move higher and higher up into the rolling green highlands where the big tea farms are many beautiful hilltop village and waterfalls.

Day 8

Ella city tour

Go on a morning hike to Ella Rock or Mini Adam’s Peak today. These hikes are rewarding because you get to explore lush tea plantations. It’s well worth the effort because the view is spectacular and you get a good sense of the terrain around Ella.

Along the way, we’ll stop at Udawalawe National Park for a jeep safari. This park is home to Sri Lanka’s largest elephant population and is also a popular destination for birdwatchers.

covering an area of 30,821 acres. About 250 of the 400 elephants being cared for here can be considered permanent residents.

The park’s main draws Extensive list of animals, such as elephants, deer, wild boar, water buffalo, jackal, kind of eagles, birds, monkeys, and crocodiles.

Day 10

Galle > Airport

Galle fort

The Portuguese constructed Galle Fort in Sri Lanka’s Galle district. The Dutch renovated it in the 17th century, bringing its total age to 400 years. There are currently two entrances to the fort. Kotu Pau is still the location of numerous government buildings. The Galle fort is also an ancient structure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As with everything else, this too shall pass. With the help of your personal chauffeur, you can relax on the way back to the airport.
